Summer 2005 Cruises

In 2008 I and a number of friends took ZAMORA to Malta, via Eire, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, the Balearics, Sardinia and Sicily, and did some late season sailing around Malta and Gozo. After laying up in Malta for the winter, the 2009 season was spent sailing via the East and North coasts of Sicily, a circuit of Sardinia, the Balearics, Spain and Gibraltar, to a lay up at Lagos, in the Portuguese Algarve. The 2010 season was spent sailing the Portuguese and Spanish Atlantic coasts, to a winter layup at Getxo marina, Bilbao, and the early part of the 2011 season was spent in cruising the French Biscay coast and ports in Cornwall, South Wales, Eire and Northern Ireland, on a return passage to the Firth of Clyde. The individual places visited during these sailing seasons are too numerous to mention here. ZAMORA  then resumed her cruising of the Northwest of the UK, and since returning to home waters the following previously unvisited places have been added to the the above list:

Glenarm Marina
Portavadie Marina
Port Bannatyne Marina
Mallaig Marina
Port Appin
The new Short Stay pontoons adjacent to and just North of Oban North Pier.

Over the  35 years and 6 months that I owned  ZAMORA, I have logged 74,350.4 nautical miles in her; an average  of 2094 nautical miles per year. The greatest distance in a single season was  3567 nautical miles, in  1989.  The greatest number of weeks sailing in a single season was 21, while I was running RYA sailing courses.

In addition to my sailing activity in ZAMORA, my holiday sailing has extended in recent years to repeat visits to the Mediterranean, including a  number of  Flotilla holidays with family and friends in the Ionian, several bare boat charters with family and friends in the Balearics, and crewing in a friend and ex customer's very fine  Halberg Rassy from the Balearics  to Sardinia and Sicily, the  South Ionian  and both East and West Aegean, the West  and South coasts of Turkey and  the West and South coasts of Cyprus. I am hoping to continue doing this, with the help of  frirends, as well as taking out  occasional charters on the West of Scotland.
