FAMILY - WADDINGTON/ROBINSON ARCHIVE  PHOTOS

I am the great great grandson of John Waddington (c1810-1883) of Padiham , and great grandson of his youngest son Richard Waddington (1851-1883).  I inherited a large number of late 19th and early 20th century photographs from my paternal grandmother Annie Waddington (née Robinson) (1880-1968) and her younger sister Ada (Bobbie) Robinson (1891-1980). Many of the people portrayed, both family and friends, I have been able to recognise, but there are a number of obviously Waddington-connected ones, the most striking of which I show below, where I cannot put names to the subjects.

It strikes me that those most likely to be able to help me are descendants of my great great grandfather John Robinson (1813 - 1892)  or of my great grandfather Waddington's siblings, Ellen Waddington (1829-87) (married name Wikinson), Henry Waddington (1834-86), Margaret Waddington (1837-1928) (married name Birkett), Mary Waddington (1839-1914) (married name Brown), and Grace Waddington (1846-1928) (married name Fawcett) or, for those who have not traced their ancestry so far back, the descendants of my grandfather Tom Waddington (1880-1929)'s siblings (Tom having been Richard Waddington's youngest son). These were Henry Waddington (1868-?), David Waddington (1869-?), Ellen Waddington (1872-?) (married name Wilkinson), Mary Waddington (1874-?) (married name Slater), John Waddington (1877-?), and Grace Waddington (1878-?) (married name Ellershaw).

I will be most grateful for any direct help, or even clues, as to the identity of the people shown, and will be happy to send copies of the photographs to anyone interested. I also have confirmed photographs of all my immediate family back to and including my grandparents (at various ages) and one each of John Waddington (c1810-1883) and his wife Mary (née Smith) (1810-1886), any of which I would be happy to copy to interested parties. My full family tree, as far as it goes, is on Genes Reunited, (click to enter), and members are welcome to ask for access.

A.  B. C.

D. E
F. G. H.
I. J. K.
L. M.

A. This is a studio photograph by James Bacon & Son of Northumberland Street, Newcastle on Tyne. A Waddington or Robinson face, but who is it?.

B. Another typical Waddington or Robinson face. Probably the same child as in J & K, but who? An unmarked studio photograph.

C. The lady on the extreme left is Annie Waddington (née Robinson) (1880-1968) in the late 1930s/early 1940s? The man second on the right is a Waddington or Robinson, and looks like my father  George Waddington (1907-51) but isn't. Who is he, and who are the others?.

D. A studio photograph by J. Harrison of 2 Brunswick Street, Nelson.. The Best Man (second from the left) is George Waddington (1907-51) in about 1927/29? Who are the rest, and is the elderly gentleman the same as on photograph M?

E. This is the product of the same studio as at D,  but much earlier. The boy seated in front of the group is again George Waddington (1907-51) in about 1917/19? Who are the rest of the wedding party?

F. This is a studio photograph by Paul Weiss of Victoria Studio, 1 Ormerod Road, Burnley. It could be of a young Tom Waddington (1880-1929), but I need either confirmation or alternative suggestions. My confirmed pictures of my paternal grandfather were taken at a later stage in his life.

G. This studio photograph is by A. & G. Taylor of 59 Preston New Road, Blackburn. I have a vague recollection of being told it was my great grandfather, Richard Waddington (1851-83), but again I need confirmation or alternative suggestions. If it is Richard and it is a wedding photo, it cannot have been taken at his own wedding, which was in October 1867, when he was only 17. This isn't a 17 year old's beard!.

H & I. Both of these are by James Brooks of Hufling Lane, Burnley. H is the same person as in G, and if this is Richard Waddington, perhaps the lady at I is his wife, Ann Hunter (1850-1922). Both photos appear to use the same furniture, and could presumably have been taken at the same time.

J & K. These appear to be the same Waddington or Robinson child as at B. They are on unmarked postcards. Early 20th century?

L. Unknown lady. Again on a postcard, this time with the name of the photographer W. W. Smith, Culvert Buildings, Yorkshire Street, Burnley embossed on one corner, otherwise unmarked.

M. Unknown couple, again on an unmarked postcard. Who are they, and is this the same gentleman as on E?
